Chavez in Good Health!

Mérida, February 28th 2012 (Venezuelanalysis.com) – An initial government statement reports that an operation on President Hugo Chavez on a lesion in the same area where he had a cancerous tumour removed last year, has been successful. Nevertheless, private media, using the recently leaked Stratfor emails, are announcing he has just one or two years to live.

Vice-president Elias Jaua, while delivering his annual report today in the national assembly, read out a statement from the presidency, announcing that the operation “went according to plan, obtaining satisfactory results, President Chavez is in good physical condition”.

Jaua said there had been no complications. “The pelvic lesion was completely extracted, and the tissue surrounding the lesion was also removed, there were no complications related to nearby organs, [Chavez] is stable… and will recover adequately as he collaborates with post surgery rehabilitation”.

According to the statement, the president has ordered that the results of the surgery be made public, including the above information, and it’s expected that in the next few hours the histology studies (tissues and cells) will be available. These results will determine the best treatment for the lesion.

In the statement, Chavez expressed his gratitude for the messages and phone calls he had received from the Venezuelan people, as well as people and dignitaries from around the world. According to the coordinator of Chavez’s twitter account, @chavezcandanga, Chavez received 31,000 messages in the 24 hours following his initial announcement on 21 February of the need for a second operation.

According to the coordinator, Ysmel Serrano, the number is a “record for a twitter account, and I think at a global level”.

Chavez also thanked Fidel and Raul Castro and the Cuban people and “the team of health specialists who conducted the operation”.

Media distortions

Before and since Chavez announced the need to for the second operation, Venezuelan and international media have repeatedly announced, without evidence, that his “cancer has returned” and in some cases that it had spread.

Further, such news outlets also misrepresented yesterday’s Wikileaks leak, to claim that Chavez only had one to two years to live. Among the almost 300 files published so far by Wikileaks since yesterday from “strategic intelligence” company Stratfor, were emails written by Stratfor “analyst” Reva Bhalla about Venezuela.

In the emails, available in English here, and here, Bhalla falsely predicted that Pablo Perez would win the opposition primaries on February 12, which were in fact won by Capriles Radonsky by a large margin, and she also wrote that she has sources who are sure that Chavez has only one or two years left to live.

Numerous private media agencies however have taken her emails and attributed their content directly to Wikileaks, with elLatino.com headlining, “Wikileaks says that Chavez has two years of life left”, and CNN and Venezuela’s El Tiempo headlining, “Hugo Chavez has between one and two years of life, according to Wikileaks”.

Chavez was originally operated on for a cancerous tumour in June last year, and by October had announced his “full recovery”.

Poland and Belarus have recalled ambassadors on the eve of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations, just as European states agreed to toughen sanctions against Minsk officials. Seemingly about human rights, the row in fact has ethnic roots.

The Polish embassy in Minsk canceled the celebrations scheduled for March 2 as the ambassador is returning to Warsaw on February 29. It was also announced that the list of Belarus officials subject to sanctions in EU countries would be expanded on Wednesday. But Belarus chose to respond to Poland separately, and there is a reason for this.

Belarusian-Polish relations have never been easy due to the countries’ complicated history. Some 900 thousand of Belarus’ 10-million population are ethnic Poles and thus can receive the Pole’s Card – a document officially recognized by Poland as a certificate of belonging to the Polish Nation and granting its bearer many preferences such as a visa and work permit.

Belarus has repeatedly criticized the document for splitting Belarusian society ethnically. Another reason for discontent appears to be the fact that Belarus Poles are a significant force promoting the westernization of the country, while official Minsk opposes it.

The Polish authorities are the main advocate of pressure on Belarus in the European Union. Poland hosts opposition media broadcasting on Belarus and often funds them. Belarus, in turn, had set up its own Union of Belarus Poles – a pro-government community which holds that Poland’s actions divide and harm the Polish nation.

Minsk recalled its ambassadors from Poland and the EU after it was announced that European nations were to expand the list of Belarus officials subject to sanctions. The Belarus authorities also sent the EU and Polish envoys back to their capitals for consultations – a move one step short of severing diplomatic relations. After all this, 27 EU countries recalled their own ambassadors from Belarus as demonstration of solidarity within the bloc.

At present, 231 Belarus officials are blacklisted by the EU – starting with President Lukashenko and his two sons and ending with middle-rank police officers and court clerks who have made and enforced decisions to prosecute Belarusian political opposition.

Belarus has repeatedly called the sanctions an attempt to influence its internal politics and internal justice, but Western countries continue their pressure. Belarus ally Russia has also criticized the threats, with the Russian and Belarusian presidents issuing a joint declaration last week that described the economic sanctions as an artificial barrier on the way of European integration.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Wednesday said that any sanctions on Belarus are a form of pressure. He insists the EU measures will not affect the ongoing integration within the Eurasian Union.

Canadian peacekeeper in Somalia

In his new book, Yves Engler sets to demolish the near saintly status of Lester Bowles (“Mike”) Pearson in the public sphere, Canadian foreign policy circles and even on the social democratic left. And in the process, he takes on the much repeated slogan that “the world needs more of Canada.” […]

“Canada was well placed to benefit from U.S. centered multilateral imperialism. A growing capitalist power, Canada was the world’s second biggest creditor nation at the end of World War II (and had one of the biggest armies)”

Despite Prime Minister Mackenzie King’s strong opposition, Pearson got Canada roped into participating in the murderous air and ground military campaigns led by the U.S. under the United Nations flag in the 1950-1953 Korean war. The result was millions of dead Koreans in a still misunderstood conflict today.  “In many ways the Korean War marks the beginning of the permanent war economy in the U.S.,” Engler writes.

Pearson was a bit of a double dealer. As a Christian Zionist he worked behind the scenes diplomatically to support the UN partition plan in Palestine that culminated in Israel’s founding in 1948. But as part of an anti-Semitic Mackenzie King government in the same time period, he was unapologetic in his endorsement of a policy to keep post-World War II Jewish refugees, languishing in Europe, out of pristine Canada.

From the late 1940s until the 1960s Pearson backed all of the major U.S. moves against nationalist governments that sought to control their countries’ internal resources. The most notorious are the 1953 CIA inspired coups against democratically elected administrations in Guatemala and Iran. Neither has never really recovered from the consequences of those decisions by Washington to intervene.

Pearson was adamant and consistent in opposing every significant anti-colonial movement in the developing world from the 1940s to the 1960s whether it involved Algeria, Indochina or Africa or Indonesia.

Carl Schmitt (1888–1985), one of the great legal and political thinkers of the 20th century, thought long and hard about the role and significance of war. He saw how the international law of the Eurocentric era of world history began to falter at the end of World War I and foundered at the end of World War II. Following World War II, belligerent acts around the world began to assume a distinctly partisan character, and the belligerents were increasingly non-state actors. His Theory of the Partisan originated in two lectures that Schmitt delivered in 1962, which addressed the transformation of war in the post-European age. Schmitt concludes Theory of the Partisan with the statement: ‘The theory of the partisan flows into the question of the concept of the political, into the question of the real enemy and of a new nomos of the earth.’

Theory of the Partisan analyzes a specific and significant phenomenon that ushered in a new theory of war and enmity. It contains an implicit theory of the terrorist, which in the 21st century has ushered in yet another new theory of war and enmity. Consequently, this work is not only of historical interest, but is relevant to contemporary political and military developments and concerns.

TamilNet under Cyber-Attack

Distributed Denial-of-Service Attack (DDoS), identified by the service provider of TamilNet as originating in an orchestrated way from certain affluent parts of the world, has been disrupting web traffic of TamilNet.com since Saturday. The attack on the independent media reporting to the world on Tamil affairs coincides with the opening of the 19th sessions of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHCR) in Geneva on Monday, where the USA and Sri Lanka have already pitched positions in hijacking the focus of issues concerning the cause of genocide-affected Eezham Tamils. TamilNet has been forced to seek expert services in regularising the web traffic. As a media arguing for Eezham Tamil public to take up the issues into their hands, TamilNet depends on the support of nobody other than the Tamil masses and the alternative world.

TamilNet Editorial Board

In the past too, TamilNet in its 15-years of web transmission had been targeted to similar web attacks, but in minor scale.

Sri Lanka has been blocking the web traffic of TamilNet inside the island since June 2007.

In the long struggle of Eezham Tamils, in the pre-Internet era, regimes in Colombo were jamming broadcasts including those of the Tamil services of the BBC and Radio Veritas.

TamilNet was blocked in Sri Lanka, but still it was able to relay to the world the first hand coverage of the war, at a time when the Colombo regime and its abetters wanted to conduct a genocidal war without witnesses. The regional media in the subcontinent and the international media either could not challenge or didn’t want to challenge the ‘experiment’ of Colombo and the powers in complicity.

Indirectly admitting the Internet censorship on TamilNet, Sri Lankan Media Minister and former military spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella then said, as reported by the BBC: “We are looking for hackers to disable the TamilNet but could not find anyone yet.”

The web attack on TamilNet now, which in magnitude surpasses all the earlier attacks even during the Vanni War, shows only the level of anxiety over the current post-war manoeuvrings in the paranoid camps, guilty of genocide, but remain either inimical or stuck to deterrent towards justice to the cause of Eezham Tamils.

TamilNet has also faced crippling murderous attacks.

On 19 October 2000, BBC’s Jaffna correspondent Mylvaganam Nimalarajan, who was also one of the ground reporters of TamilNet was shot and killed in Jaffna, controlled by Sri Lanka’s military.

Almost five years later, on 28 April 2005, Sivaram Dharmeratnam, a senior editor of TamilNet, was abducted and assassinated in Colombo and his body was later found in the high security zone behind the Sri Lankan parliament in Colombo.

Later, during the Rajapaksa regime, media in Colombo was also targeted through assassinations and web attacks. The target of attacks included the ones even supporting the wartime SL commander Sarath Fonseka.

Eezham Tamils have noticed a difference in response from the Establishments, their media and human rights organisations advocating media freedom, between attacks that have taken place against Colombo-centric media and attacks against the media orientated to the national cause of Eezham Tamils.

Upholding the state either by genocide or by any other artful means conceived by the Establishments is progressive or moderate that needs voices of protection. But upholding the national cause of genocide-affected Eezham Tamils and exposing the culprits deterring it, or revealing the on-going structural genocide, is ‘terrorist’, pro-LTTE or pro-rebel.

Even when there are no visible signs of the presence of the LTTE, TamilNet has been deliberately tagged with the ‘taboo’ or is subjected to blackout, calculated disregard etc., not only by the genocidal state in the island but also by powers, personalities formerly associated with the moves of the Co-Chairs, international organisations including those who claim speaking on human rights and by the mainstream news agencies as well as media that play the second fiddle.

Then, why the present international web attack of cowardice on TamilNet, needs perusal by our readers and the alternative world.

Right from the inception, TamilNet has been functioning on a very low budget and without the benefits of advertisement, just because of maintaining its independence in the times of ‘funded’ organisations and institutions. It will remain so.

It has been depending only on the support of the masses and genuine philanthropists among them who don’t intend ‘strings’ attached to their support whether material or otherwise. TamilNet will personally reach out to them with authentication when needed.

Our readers and the alternative world are requested to understand the times, the plight of TamilNet and the universal free media experiment for a righteous cause involved in the entire process, in showing their solidarity.

New Plots Against Cuba

ACCORDING to reliable sources, terrorist Luis Posada Carriles is plotting new acts of violence against Cuba, and is doing so in a context of total compartmentalization and secrecy, with the support of a number of counterrevolutionary and criminal members of Miami’s anti-Cuban mafia.

Posada’s rekindled activities have increased as he has renewed contacts with terrorists such as Santiago Alvarez Fernandez Magriñá, Enrique Encinoza, Gaspar Jiménez Escobedo, Pedro Crispín Remón Rodríguez, Reynold Rodríguez, Luis Zúñiga Rey, Dionisio Suárez Esquivel, Roberto Martín Pérez, Félix Alonso, Rodolfo Rodríguez San Román, Orlando Martínez Paz, Félix Rodríguez Mendigutía, Saúl Ramón Sánchez Rizo, Angel Francisco D´fana Serrano, Ernesto Díaz Rodríguez, Osiel González Rodríguez, Francisco José Hernández Calvo, Roberto Martín Pérez, Horacio Salvador García Cordero, and Aldo Rosado Tuero, joined by yet another terrorist involved in the frustrated attempt on Fidel Castro’s life in Panama: César Matamoros. Many of these individuals are members of terrorist organizations such as Alpha 66, the Cuban Liberty Council and the Cuban-American National Foundation.

A number of actions and events confirm the re-initiation of these contacts:

• A formal meeting of Luis Posada Carriles and several of these people on August 30, 2011, during celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Alpha 66.

• A formal meeting between Luis Posada Carriles and members of the terrorist mafia on receiving the keys to the city of Hialeah, June 14, 2011.

• A formal meeting of Luis Posada Carriles with Pedro Crispín Remón, Gaspar Jiménez Escobedo, César Matamoros, and ex-Panamanian President Mireya Moscoso, during a Radio Mambí program, January 17, 2012.

• A tribute to Luis Posada Carriles January 28, 2012, during a function at Miami’s Manuel Artime Theater.

In all of the above events, Posada Carriles conversed freely with his fellow terrorists, without showing any discretion, given the presence of reporters, thus revealing his sense of total impunity.

However, at a more discreet level, Luis Posada Carriles has maintained systematic contact with members of Miami’s terrorist groups.

One such secret meeting to plot acts of violence against Cuba took place recently in the residence of Santiago Alvarez Fernández-Magriñá. Beside Luis Posada Carriles and the host, also present were Guillermo Novo Sampoll, Luis Zúñiga Rey, Reynol Rodríguez and Roberto Martín Pérez. The meeting reached the following agreements:

• To support Saúl Ramón Sánchez Rizo and the Democracy Movement in acts of provocation planned during Pope Benedict XVI’s upcoming visit to Cuba. The aim is to provide vessels for a flotilla and to use all possible means to encourage the Cuban population to go to coastal city seafronts and express solidarity with these acts.

• To apply to U.S. authorities for a permit to use an aircraft to drop counterrevolutionary leaflets over Cuban territory, once again in support of José Basulto from the Brothers to the Rescue organization. This would create the conditions for a repeat of an incident similar to the one on February 24, 1996, thus worsening relations between the Obama administration and the Cuban government.

• To immediately dispatch agents to Cuba to give sabotage instructions to internal counterrevolutionary groups in the context of the Pope’s visit and the 21st International Book Fair of Havana. In relation to the latter event, Miami terrorists anticipate mobilizing mercenaries proclaiming themselves independent journalists, in order to create disturbances in Book Fair venues, on the pretext of their restricted freedom of expression and the impossibility of having their books published.

Regarding the visit of Pope Benedict XVI, Posada’s group has weighed up the possibility of using the Damas de Blanco (Women in White) to create acts of provocation. Likewise, there are promises of new and larger means of support and financial aid to Berta Soler and her acolytes, through the agents dispatched.

In other meetings of Posada Carriles and Santiago Alvarez with various mafia members resident in Florida, it was decided to create a group to operate – it is already doing so – on the Facebook social network, internal and foreign counterrevolutionary blogs and Twitter, to increase provocations against Cuba. This group centrally comprises Aldo Rosado Tuero, Dionisio de la Torre Jr, Nancy Calzadilla, Eduardo Rodríguez, Olga Sánchez, Mercedes Perdigón, Lucy Ramón and other professional slanderers. In the same context, they have contacted their principal mercenaries in Cuba, Yoani Sánchez Cordero, Sara Martha Fonseca Quevedo, Marta Beatriz Roque Cabello and, more recently, José Daniel Ferrer, in order to intensify the ideological campaign against Cuba, using as ideological tools the alleged repression of “dissidents” and media shows presenting hunger strikes, beatings and ill-treatment in prisons, etc.

Another method employed by Posada Carriles’ associates is the harassment of Cuban journalists and officials using SMS messages containing threats to them and their family members. This demonstrates their mafiosi nature and further confirms the presence of Posada in the shadows, given that this is a method he has resorted to most frequently during his criminal life.

Finally, Posada Carriles’ new terrorist group is studying a number of options for re-instigating extremist actions – which Cuba successfully neutralized in 1997 – by targeting the Scarabeo-9 oil rig, the Matanzas Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant and other economic targets. It is the responsibility of the FBI and U.S. authorities to intervene in this matter. Recently, we sent a personal letter to these agencies exposing terrorist plots being hatched in the United States in open violation of the Neutrality Act of June 25, 1948, Articles 960 – 962. No answer has been received to date.

As addition elements, we can also confirm that, in the last few days, Posada Carriles has been seeking new financial sources to perpetrate these terrorist acts against Cuba, as well as to use some of this income to repay legal debts incurred during his trial in El Paso, Texas.

Moreover, this terrorist’s personal concerns cannot be overlooked, which makes him all the more dangerous. He needs to win merit from the U.S. ultra-right and Miami mafia groups, given the possibility of being extradited to Panama, after the Second Circuit Court ruled his pardon by President Mireya Moscoso unconstitutional. Also pending is the threat that the freezing by a New Jersey Grand Jury of a court case in relation to Posada Carriles’ involvement in the death of Italian Fabio di Celmo and other acts of terrorism could be overturned. This should be borne in mind because, at the same time, he could also be planning an escape in the event of this contingency.

This is the latest news on this terrorist, who is not exempt from the Cuban people’s vigilance, although he believes himself protected and enjoying impunity. In this way, I am advising him that the promise to his associates of doing something for Cuba soon, has been frustrated in advance.

Ah, I almost forgot… I should warn Congress members willing to be involved in Posada’s plans – as is the case in the attempt to release the terrorist Eduardo Arocena – that they are about to enter into an extremely dangerous game. Remember what George W. Bush said, “Any government supporting, protecting or harboring terrorists is … equally guilty of terrorist crimes!” despite the difference between what the United States says and actually does on this issue.
