Neocons Slither Back

Neo-Con Michelle Bachmann

Maureen Dowd likens Israel Firsters, neocons, Dan Senor to snakes…

Ryan was moving his mouth, but the voice was the neocon puppet master Dan Senor. The hawkish Romney adviser has been secunded to manage the running mate and graft a Manichaean worldview onto the foreign affairs neophyte.

A moral, muscular foreign policy; a disdain for weakness and diplomacy; a duty to invade and bomb Israel’s neighbors; a divine right to pre-emption — it’s all ominously familiar.

You can draw a direct line from the hyperpower manifesto of the Project for the New American Century, which the neocons, abetted by Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld, used to prod an insecure and uninformed president into invading Iraq — a wildly misguided attempt to intimidate Arabs through the shock of overwhelming force. How’s that going for us?

After 9/11, the neocons captured one Republican president who was naïve about the world. Now, amid contagious Arab rage sparked on the 11th anniversary of 9/11, they have captured another would-be Republican president and vice president, both jejeune about the world.

Senor is emblematic of how much trouble America blundered into in the Middle East — trillions wasted, so many lives and limbs lost — because of how little we fathom the culture and sectarian politics. We’re still stumbling in the dark. We not only don’t know who our allies and enemies are, we don’t know who our allies’ and enemies’ allies and enemies are.

[I always had the feeling that the relatively unknown Obama was a mere placeholder for the next neocon president, allowing Americans to cool off after the Bush II disaster. -Dan Canuckistan]

Behind the frenzy unleashed by a defamatory film on Islam, Webster Tarpley scents a machination orchestrated by a Zionist-connected network with the ultimate goal of removing Barack Obama from the White House, increasingly perceived as posing an obstacle to Israel’s unfettered grip on U.S. foreign policy. A regime change, with Netanyahu’s bosom friend Mitt Romney at the helm, would pave the way for a neocon comeback to better accommodate Israel’s interests and resolidify Tel-Aviv’s influence in Washington. The CIA Mormon Mafia

Featuring top officials across the US intelligence community who are members of Romney’s tightly-knit sect.

This group can also be referred to as the Brent Scowcroft faction. Scowcroft, Henry Kissinger’s right-hand man, used his entrenched bureaucratic position over decades to help promote many of his co-religionists. This group wants Romney in the White House because Romney and his transition team boss Mike Leavitt, also a Mormon, are visibly embarked on a policy of favoring Mormons for top positions.

Larry Gibson, the retired autoworker who gained national attention for his fight against mountaintop-removal coal mining in his native Appalachia, died of a heart attack on Sunday at his home in West Virginia. He was 66.

For more than two decades, Mr. Gibson campaigned against mountaintop strip mining, which has demolished some 500 mountains in the region over the last 30 years. Several recent studies also link the practice to an increasing incidence of serious health problems among local residents.

He traveled nationally and internationally, speaking to community groups, political rallies, shareholder meetings and government agencies, usually wearing his trademark baseball cap and T-shirt with the motto “Love them or leave them, just don’t destroy them.”

His message came across as a personal one, an attempt to protect the natural environment of the region where his family had lived for over 200 years.

While his approach was peaceful, he sometimes ran afoul of the law. On more than one occasion he was arrested at the Capitol in Washington in concert with groups protesting what they considered lax oversight of the mining industry by the federal government.
